Projects have a few milestones, but none like the “topping out” ceremony. This is a traditional builders’ rite traced back to ancient Scandinavia. It is the celebration of hoisting the last piece of structure into place, which signifies that we are ready to move to the next phase of the construction process.
In the United States, the beam is traditionally painted white and signed by all who attend before placement. Additionally, a toast or meal is provided for the workers. Tuesday, August 6, the ceremony for the Fishers Parks Department’s new Fishers Community Center was no different. The workers shared a meal celebrating both the safety and completion of the project to date. After that, they watched the last beam get put into position, finalizing the steel structure.
The Fishers Community Center at Johnson Farm broke ground in March and is scheduled to be completed in late 2025. More updates will follow.
“Watching the structural phase of a project is always exciting because you get to see the building grow and come to life each day,” said Hagerman Project Manager Matt Davis. “There has been a lot of hard work and collaboration to reach this milestone and taking time to stop and watch the last beam go up is a great reminder of that. I am incredibly proud of the entire project team and look forward to the next phases of construction.”
Hagerman is honored to be the Construction Manager for this transformational project in Fishers. Congratulations to the City of Fishers on reaching this project milestone!
