The environment fostered at Indianapolis’ Sycamore School’s newly renovated Media Center encourages students at Indiana’s only accredited, private, independent preschool through eighth grade school for gifted children to think critically in a technological world while providing an environment that sparks students’ ambitions and fosters imagination and creativity. The Hagerman Group served as the project’s construction manager, while RATIO’s Mark Beebe led the design team.
One could say this project is enlightening due to its BrainLit installation. BrainLit’s Biocentric lighting system is scientifically proven to synchronize circadian rhythms, improve sleep quality, and boost cognitive function, thereby providing an optimal learning environment. The collaboration between Hagerman and BrainLit marks the first in the country to adopt this innovative lighting technology in an early childhood through eighth grade school, designed to enhance the learning environment and improve the wellbeing of students and staff.
The opening of the new media center was spectacular! Sycamore students and their families were invited to join the ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour the newly renovated space, which includes reading material for all students at Sycamore in one place rather than being kept in multiple places throughout the school as in the past.
“This is all for the kids! We are thrilled to enhance the media center in so many ways, giving the kids a place to use their imagination atop the canopy while maximizing learning in every facet of the center.”
John Huber, Head of School at Sycamore School
This project was made possible by the generosity of donors, including alumni, parents of current and former students, and faculty members. From an outdated library to a learning hub, this new media center provides space for collaboration, education, and preparation for the future.
